justin88prop trading at banks in the US is now largely wound down, due to the Volcker Rule part of Dodd-Frank. some banks that do not take US deposits (e.g. Nomura) still have prop trading in their US offices though.

while not strictly necessary, you might have to take the easy exams (e.g Series 7 and 63) depending on the trading product. anyone who gets the job should have no trouble with these tests.

may i ask what kind of skills do you need to be a trader?

cfa doesnt help for traders. it helps for PM's and people in AM.

I have a feeling that the fact that you have to ask that question means you're under-qualified for the position.
