If I want to be a proprietary trader in an investment bank, do I need to pass certain tests first? If so, what are them?

FINRA Series 56 or 55. You can't sit for the exams until you have firm sponsorship. (i.e. you need to be hired by the firm first).
Wanting to be a prop trader in a bank is probably a somewhat wrong thing to want at the current juncture. Why don't you want to be a prop trader, period, instead?
prop trading at banks in the US is now largely wound down, due to the Volcker Rule part of Dodd-Frank. some banks that do not take US deposits (e.g. Nomura) still have prop trading in their US offices though.
while not strictly necessary, you might have to take the easy exams (e.g Series 7 and 63) depending on the trading product. anyone who gets the job should have no trouble with these tests.
may i ask what kind of skills do you need to be a trader?
you need to make money on a risk-adjusted basis.

I go to a state school currently and majoring in finance and love trading. I know my chances are slim in getting into the trading world, but was wondering what certifications I could get to stand out a little.
I was thinking CMT, CFA, Bloomberg terminal certifcation, and Series 7. Anyone have better input?
cfa doesnt help for traders. it helps for PM's and people in AM.

I have a feeling that the fact that you have to ask that question means you're under-qualified for the position.
But if you are then I doubt it since it doesn't say so
