Challenges with starting new job completely remote

So I started a new job completely remote back in April. I work for legal at a prop shop in Chicago. I am really enjoying the work so far, as I have developed a passion for trading and markets (way more interesting than law). Anyway, I was supposed to start in the office in March, but the start date kept getting pushed back until finally I just started remotely in April. I've basically only met my boss and one guy from IT when I picked up my laptop. I've found that at times I have dead periods of little to no assignments, and have struggled to stay productive. I have been trying to fill some of that time by studying more advanced HFT concepts, but besides that it sometimes feels hard to get a good flow of assignments from my boss and others. I also feel like I have gotten zero constructive criticism. My former job was a lot more structured with monthly performance number and benchmarks. Basically I just don't want to appear useless and of little value. I really enjoy being at this firm. Does anyone have any advice with this?

I suppose any advice from anyone whos had a similar experience with not just working remotely, but taking the initiative to find new assignments/projects at work.

Also, any feedback from traders who think their legal/compliance teams could be doing anything better/differently
