Characteristics of S&T desks which are likely to NEED new Analysts every year
Hi, I was wondering if someone could shed light on what attributes certain desks have which require analysts? I.e if very fast paced and flow driven, would analysts always be needed vs something slower, say exotics/SPG which may not need to hire new analyts? Is there any other factors? Or is it really just firm dependent?
Thanks

Bank dependent, year dependent, budget dependent.
One year a bank may decide they want a bigger commodities presence and therefore the desk needs more junior headcount.
Another bank may be deciding they're subscale in commodities and want to rationalise this team.
Obviously over generalizing here but point is it depends on too many factors. Doesn't really matter how "fast" the desk is. If they have enough people, they have enough people.
Okay, thanks for replying. From a pure lens of likely to have headcount etc- any desks to avoid? I know some places on the internship they had desks where the most junior was a VP etc- so would that mean they don’t really need analysts?
That means they do because they want you to do the bitch work. If you have several seniors like 5+ VP+ then they might not need
