Chemical Engineer to Finance Internship Help

Hi,

I am currently a final year BEng Chemical Engineering student at a UK Russell Group university (Newcastle) on track for a 1st degree classification. A combination of factors have led me to lean towards having a finance related career. Specifically, I'm interested in energy trading.

I already have a place on a finance masters programme at Newcastle University London campus, starting this September and have also applied to LSE and Cass quant based finance programmes. I have been looking for a finance internship for this summer to provide some relevant experience as I only have engineering/projects experience at a global Pharma company.

Does anyone have any advice on the best course of action I should take? I Have applied to numerous larger firms and am speaking to a contact in the trading function of an O&G Supermajor next week to discuss future careers. If anyone knows of any smaller energy trading houses based in London that would be really helpful.

Finally, I may be able to get some work experience in a London based Asset Management firm, how much weight would this carry for a graduate trading job application?

Thanks
