Chinese Commodity Trading

This article (link) isn't particularly new (11/12), but one of my classes was talking about it today and I was wondering if anyone here has any experience trading/brokering strange "commodities" with the Chinese.

Basically, the article points out the strange affection the chinese have for:

  • Walnuts
  • Jade
  • Aged Tea

I mean no disrespect to any chinese members. Americans buy tons of things other countries would find strange. Value placed on an item is always relative to the individual person and generally influenced by that individuals society.

I just find the particular commodities strangely interesting. Additionally, I remember hearing that chinese investors brought suitcases of money to some Pecan orchards earlier this year and that they have actually influenced domestic supply of Pecans in the US.

So, does anyone have any experience trading/brokering these commodities? Either physically or with futures?
