Commodities vs. Fixed Income

I was hoping someone(s) could paint some color for me about pursuing a trading career in fixed income or commodities. As a recent grad working in finance, I am not sure of the opportunities that both asset classes present. Where will the opportunities exist going forward in the 21st century? What are the differences in climbing a company ladder? What skill set and interests are needed to succeed in one asset class vs the other? I have more questions but this is good for now. All feedback is very much appreciated.
