Of course they do. Rain-making MD's can easily break $1mm (for example at some boutiques MD's keep 30-40% of the M&A fees they bring in, so getting to $1mm is as easy as a 1% transaction fee on a $250mm transaction).

Private equity MD's / partners typically get a % of the management fees the shop generates, so at a $1bn+ fund charging 2% it's really not that hard for an MD to see $1mm+ in a year.

At this level of finance, 28 year olds are getting paid $400k or more to crunch numbers and support these MD's / partners. Why would it be difficult for a successful MD in his late 30's / early 40's to earn a multiple of what he's paying his juniors?

 

Would you say the same but in Trading? Also I've heard the hedge fund traders usually get at least 500k at 28. At more senior level the pay probably rises or am I wrong?
