Do traders rotate?
Hi, do traders actually rotate in terms of the product they trade? I mean, a fixed income trader will probably not start to trade equities tomorrow, ofc. but does a fixed income trader trade, say, sovereign debt and then maybe corporate debt a few years later (just as an example)? or are you fixed in exactly one sub-product (say IG corporate bonds or something)? or is there some flexibility?
No, unless you're a) junior and are being "rotated"; or b) rotating because you're forced to (e.g. it's a choice between being reassigned and being fired).
Traders are hired as specialist in their specified commodity. The only overlap I've seen is an agricultural trader who may trade soy beans, palm oil, tallow, etc...Rotational programs are common against recent college graduates and post-MBA hires.
