Energy Trading Internships - Majoring in finance with a track in global energy

As for your question, I think you gotta keep on trying. You're only a sophmore so you still have to take those harder classes before a big time intership comes your way. My advice would be to get any thing finance related for this summer and then network your butt off for a game-changing internship during your Junior year. Keep your grades up along the way (3.7 +).

Also, from my understanding, the GEM designation has two separate distinctions, the "Track" and the "Program". In the Track you're basically taking a bunch of Energy finance classes but in the program you're taking some tough science/engineering courses, is this correct?

This difference can make a huge difference when it comes to trading, especially in Houston, where there are a lot of physcial trading shops. I'm not sure how much it will help on the job as opposed to just have the Track, but it can definitely help you get your foot in.

Both distinctions are really good IMO but the latter can really set you apart for many shops. I've heard that some bulge bracket banks have hired some of the grads of the GEM Program.
