Fundamental: company valuations, balance sheets
HFT: programming/algo's
Risk Arb: fairly qualitative looking at the deal process (hit up Trade4size on this)
Volatility Arbitrage: fairly quantitative, but know shops who do vol arb and take people with no maths background whatsoever.
Global Macro: mix
The point is that you need to be more specific with what type of buyside firm you are looking at.
