I've never really seen unpaid internships fly at BB's but then again I'm only one person. I feel if you network a lot and get in touch with a VP/MD you'd be able to get your foot in the door that way -- otherwise, unpaid internships are very popular with boutique firms that have small S&T desk. You have to start somewhere -- it may not be glamorous, but you'll thank yourself later. Oh, and when I say network -- network like it's your 12-15 hour job. Reach out to people, go grab coffee with them, send them a hand-written thank you letter and remember follow-up emails as well. People in the industry have so many things to do 9-5 that they forget about who they had coffee with 2 weeks ago who was an aspiring unemployed college graduate wanting a job. Make yourself memorable, just not in the jeffrey chiang sense.
