Feeling Overwhelmed at Internship

I just finished my first week on the desk at a BB firm in a capital markets role. I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed with some of my tasks and struggling to pick up key concepts for the business. Further, I feel entirely unprofessional compared to the full-time guys on the desk and have begun to wonder how I'm going to make it another eight weeks. Anybody have any advice or motivation so that I feel a little more confident over the next few weeks?

You're being way too hard on yourself, you're an intern and they know that. The best you can do is learn as much as you can and don't beat yourself up over not being an expert like those around you. You'll look back and find it helpful to be on the hot seat all summer. Trust me, its much better than sitting around on a computer being ignored for 10 hours a day.

Spend the whole weekend learning the material and don't leave the office until you understand all the critical items. I remember using the weekends as my study time since the office was pretty much empty, although I was in FICC trading and not capital markets, so it could be different. I think you aren't feeling unprofessional as much as you are feeling like you are failing the group if you don't understand everything right away. This is normal. Unprofessional would be showing up in boat shoes and cracking inappropriate jokes or something. This is not normal nor advisable.
