If you want to work equity long short then you need to do the ER position. It will set you up better to eventually transfer into your stated aspirations. However, I have a couple of questions to follow on:

Are you sure you don’t want to work fundamental research on gas? Gas trading is getting really interesting with all the things that are going on in the market these days, and it might provide more of an opportunity long term. If you haven’t already research on the changing gas market through sources like the EIA and RBN Energy to see all the developments in the market.

What are the locations of these jobs? If the ER role is in Houston/TX, I’m not sure how many equity long/short exit ops there are in the area, though there are some.

These are just some thoughts from someone that has been in a similar position, but feel free to PM me with any questions. Congrats on the offers.
