GS Securities Investing - SA
Hi,
I have an on-campus interview coming up with GS Securities Investing. The groups that recruit from our school are Principle Strategies, Reinsurance, etc. from the Equities division and Americas SSG, High Yield Distressed, etc. from FICC.
The problem is we only get one 30 minute interview with two professionals but are not told which groups they are in. Since the the strategies they use and industries they cover differ quite significantly, I don't think anyone could really prepare for all the relevant technical questions right? Has anyone interviewed with them before and could share his/her experience? Maybe they only interview for fit and expect you to answer technical questions after they've assigned you to a specific group at Superdays?
Thanks!
Is your school's deadline passed yet? I thought they don't look at resumes until after the deadline. As a result, I'm applying either tonight or tomorrow. maybe I should have applied sooner?
I've done first round interviews with GS offices in Asia, but first-round(phone interview in case of APAC, oncampus in case of US, i guess) for GS is 95% fit or behavioral, plus 5% technical. Even that technical stuff isn't really technical. I've got only 1 or none questions that sound something like "Have you ever valued a company?" with no following advanced questions. I told them that I did, and that was it.
I've interviewed with three offices, HK, Singapore, and Korea, and this applied to all three. So I'm assuming the same for US positions as well. Moreover, if you look at the application process in GS website, they literally say that first round interviews, held in campus or via phone, are mainly fit questions. And second round and beyond will gauge you for technical stuff I guess.
In short, I don't think you need to worry about tailoring your technical prep to all those subdivisions. If you're still antsy, then prepare some basic tech questions for the trading as a whole, not division-specific ones.
What are possible technical questions for securities investing? that would be interesting to kw
Can you recap the questions you got from GS Asia?
The interview is mostly fit, the only technically question i was asked in the first round is what markets i would invest in and I think i said i would short credit (basket of financial names) and position for lower rates . PM me if you have any direct questions, spent time there last summer.
I'd say mostly fit as well. Top notch group of ppl.
Thanks for the input. Will drop a post once I've spoking with them.
Know why you want to be at GS versus other firms. They are very big on this.
blade 1988, can you please tell me of your experience? I have a first round coming up as well and not too sure what to expect. PM me if thats better Thanks
Sure, but it's not going to help you too much. It was all fit for me, but for others at my school it was technical. I'd be prepared to speak about everything tbh...
