High School Math Contest Award on Resume?

Top 20 non target school. Low GPA of 3.0 cumulative. High SAT with 800 Math and 800 Math lv2 800 Physics (SATII)

Would my experience in high school state math competition help me? I was top 3 in the state for two years.

Is this significant enough to put on my resume considering my low GPA? (Personal/family issues. Got sub 2.0 for two consecutive semesters which killed my GPA. Then got a 3.9 the next semester.) If so, where on my resume should I put it? I don't have a separate section for high school education.

Any idea would be appreciated.

Thank you.

You can place it as an Honors in the "activities, interests and awards" section on the bottom of your resume or you can place it in the Education section. I know that it is technically not college, but the more important thing is that you get that info in a place that a person will definitely read it.

I would label it as "3rd out of X in (your state) math competition (200X) most interviewers don't pay close attention to the dates and probably won't realize you were in HS, even if they do the point is made.....your really quantitative.
