How hard will it be to go from a REIT asset management position to a trading position?

Recent graduated with my BBA in Finance and I'm having a tough time making a decision.
It looks like I'm going to accept a job at a REIT in their asset management division. But I've recently have grown an interest in trading. How hard would it be to convert to a trade shop?
I originally wanted to go into trading but the company that I interned with (Huge O&G company, Exxon, Shell) had me in their controllers division doing accounting and would not give me a full time offer for trading. At this company it seemed like very few people were able to make the jump from controller to trader. That is why I'm deciding to go with the REIT instead since its front office work, but I'm not sure how well it will help with me wanting to go into trading.
