How to get from Equity Research - Metals & Mining to S&T?

Fellow Monkeys,

Now that I'm approaching my third year of equity research in the metals and mining space here in Canada, I've been trying to map out my career options (in the brain-storming phase and open to most options). However, I've already written off the thought of becoming an Analyst (since I can't see myself doing this for the long-term as it's just not for me, however I'm open to working for this promotion if it's required to progress career-wise).

Can any fellow monkeys out there offer any advice to an ER Associate regarding the following: - Breaking into S&T domestically and/or internationally (specifically HK or AUS) - Prospects of working buyside in either Asset Management or a Hedge Fund - Lateralling into Investment Banking domestically and/or internationally

Any help would be nice fellas!
