How to tell which prop shops are more research focused and which are more trading focused?
Currently recruiting for roles at prop shops and some shops are placing more emphasis on research and want Master's or PhD students to pursue these roles and are offering higher salaries for Quant researchers than traders. Some shops offer traders higher salaries. How to tell which of the two roles leads the shop? Also has there been a paradigm shift towards Quant Researchers in that their work is adding more value?
Look at the CEO and/or heads of desks and see what their backgrounds were.
Or just ask about each firm on here.
Quant researchers should usually get higher salaries in general they need much more hardcore quant background. But their earning potential is capped, their noncompetes are deadly and firm, they are not treated nicely always. But yes they get paid more stable high salaries.
