Institutional sales interview

Have a little job seach situation.

I currently work on a seconday desk, and I am looking to break into FI sales. I applied online to a sales position with a regional dealer, and had a phone interview with HR about 2 weeks ago. They said that they would get back to me if the hiring manager wanted to talk to me. I followed up last week and they said that they were still looking through resumes.

I was looking through our contacts today and realized that the hiring manager for the job covers us for that dealer. We don't do much business with this company, I don't think this guy knows who I am, but he knows my boss. Should I contact the guy, or since I started the process with HR, would I get dinged for trying to go around HR.

If I do decided to contact the guy I am thinking an in email like this would work.

XYZ,

I currently work on the seconday desk for company Y, and I am interested in breaking into FI sales. I spoke to HR at your company a couple of weeks ago about the sales job, and I am pretty sure you are the hiring manager. I am interested in the job and I would like to talk to you further about the opportunity and FI sales as a whole.

Thanks,

mimbs

I would email him. A few years back HR kept giving me the run around about interveiws, hiring etc. I found out who the hiring manager/MD was and shot them over an email. Didn't menion the specific job but that I was interested in breaking in and looking for opportunities. A few hours later HR called me to schedule an interview with the desk.

How big is the firm you are interviewing with?
