I did risk management for awhile. You are basically as product risk manager meaning you will work with the traders to make sure they give you some transparency on what positions they are holding.Usually this model is called Value at Risk. The job is pretty quantitative and requires some programming knowledge such as VBA(excel macros). Please note you will also be dealing with finance staff on a regular basis. It is a good way to get exposure to traders but it wont guarantee a spot on the desk.
