Investing on the trading floor

Hi all,

Have anyone heard of the Commodities Assetco Team at GS? People told me they are on the trading floor, and they use the firm's capital to invest in commodities-related companies, it's like private equity but only focused on commodites business. How good is it? Is it common in other banks?

Thanks.

I haven't heard of the GS one but my firm has a desk like this. They don't sit on the trading floor though. Seems like interesting stuff actually and is useful for any firm involved in the physical side of commodities trading as well. I would imagine all the good commodities banks are in on this type of business.
