Learning About Physical Ag Trading

Hi everyone,

I'm aiming to secure a job with one of the big Ag traders of the world (think Cargill, Glencore, Bunge etc.).

I want to learn as much as I can about physical trading strategies at these firms.

Can anyone point me in the direction of any resources that could help me out?

Thanks in advance.

You'll have a hard time learning about specific strategies. If you want to learn theory, start with "The Art of Grain Merchandising" by White Commercial Corp. This is the gold-standard textbook on learning how to trade basis and the basic positions you trade given various conditions in the market. You will also become familiar with spreads and hedge line operations, specifically at the country elevator level. Non-hedged products trade differently, but are similar in some ways.

If you land a position at one of those firms, you will learn far more in your first month than you will studying books for a year.

Visit physical commodities traders directory to familiarize yourself with players in this business beside giants as Glencore, Trafigura et cetera.. You can goolge or bing for it. It is useful to know a bit more about the market participants than the names occupying headlines of Financial Times.
