M&A Analyst to Trading

Hi fellow primates,

Happy holidays first of all. With summer recruiting happening in full swing, I was wondering if I can pick your brains a bit on how to break into trading. In particular, I am hoping to pursue energy derivative products.

Here's a few details about me:

I have completed a few work terms with a boutique in M&A (energy sector)
I still have over a year to complete in my degree (hence why I am pursuing a summer internship)
4.0 GPA
Strong Excel skills
No VBA experience

My first question is what traits and skills should I highlight in my cover letter and resume specifically for trading. Secondly, would having no VBA experience be a deal breaker.

In addition, if there are some great books/articles to read for the technical aspects of trading, please let me know!
(I have read vault guide to sales and trading)

Thanks everyone and happy holidays!
