Market Making skills for directional/prop trades

I have read that many option market makers can make good money trading options but I was curious as to how that skill set (whhatever it might be) can be used for directional trading on equities or whatever underlying.

I was hoping someone who works in the industry or in this job could provide me with some insight as to how you may put together a trade.

I have been trading a small FX account for awhile with some okay results but I feel like the way im going about doing it is amateurish and i want to trade like the pros do. reading forums on trading is annoying as 99% of them are losers
