Market Risk Mgmt --> Trading

Hi All,

I wanted to know if Trading is a realistic exit opportunity after Market Risk Management. More specifically, if I take a Market Risk Analyst position at CME Group, that involves "SPAN margining and other risk algorithms to margin new products across different asset classes." The job description mentions the futures and energy commodity markets, but I am not sure if risk management for crude oil futures can (realistically) lead to a job trading oil (or other commodity) futures in 2-3 years.

New monkeys are not allowed to post links, but to view the job you can go to the CME career site and search job ID 10115 in New York

If I can't get into energy trading, then what are other likely exit ops?

Many thanks

Definitely possible if you're already in a oil/energy trading shop. I'm not saying it's possible but I think you would have a tough time going from the CME risk mgt to a junior trader/analyst role. A more likely path is the CME -> market risk at commodities trading shop -> a junior level commercial role at the shop.

If you're in Chicago, you'll have a chance to network with folks at Mercuria, BP, and Citadel. Citadel has a commodities desk but they're not in the physical space like the 1st two.
