Money Desk

Hey all,

In a hurry so this is kind of stream-of-consciousness coming out, and I will clear anything up when I get back tonight but..

I recently interviewed for a temp position as a money desk rep for a bank that provides liquidity (advances, letters of credit) to regional banks/credit unions/insurance firms in my area. I am interested in capital markets, so I think this could at least be a good start..

I would be joining a team of two people on the sell side (fielding mostly inbound requests from clients, though they did say there would be some opportunity for outbound calls, and up/cross selling some of the banks products). The desk has the two sell side people, the new hire, and then about 4-6 buyside guys. There seems to be heavy interaction amongst both sides so good opportunity to network within, and I generally liked every I met, and the overall feel of the floor.

However, I was really never originally pursuing a trading desk environment. Not to say I wouldn't want to get in if I could, but I was always under the impression that this was a declining aspect of finance due to algorithmic trading and automation and all that. So I was just curious where I might be able to go after this job (if not somewhere internally). Any chance of S&T somewhere? Any clue on what this type of experience could lead to?
