Moving from Sales and Trading to Investment Banking?

I've heard of people moving from S&T to IB, and vise versa, but how common is it? Right now I work in muni sales at a boutique, but really want to move to the banking side. I've only been at the firm for 10 months, and since it's so small there aren't really any opportunities to lateral. I'm assuming I'll have tow wait at least another year or two? Advice?

Side note, if anyone can provide some color on moving across sectors. I work in municipals, but is it a long-shot to move into the corporate side?
