Non rotational-program entry into trading?(Canada)

Hoping to get input / hold a discussion on a transferring onto a desk at a big 5 bank (Canada) or maybe a MM on the US side.

Background: Currently working in FX, rates and commodities risk management, where I am directly responsible for the complex clients I cover to execute their trades (derivatives), provide market insight / opinion / analysis and have them operating correctly (liquidity, regulatory ect.). I really enjoy the work (been 2yrs), particularly on the market side and that's where I want to focus more. Hoping to work in more of a risk-taker roll and have skin in the game on my views or analysis. I feel like I can talk well on the markets and good fundamental understanding.

Unfortunately, the Canadian banks are suuuper structured in their hiring (ie. internships->new grad rotational -> role) and I'm wondering if there's ever going to be a chance to have an entry in to S&T? I have a quantitative target school grad degree and a previous S&T internship at one of the big 5 (totally amicable, role didn't morph into FT).

Has anyone managed this before?
