Oil Scheduler/Operator positions requiring experience?

Question

I thought this job requires basically a degree and an internship but all I see is "5 years work experience in commodities or related field".

Should I just ignore the above or this type of job actually require experience? And what type of experience?

When I interviewed for a natural gas scheduler position I did not have any experience in the field. They did not require experience, but preferred candidates having some sort of background in commodities. It depends upon the company and how they run their operation. If you do not have experience, make sure you know how storage, distribution, etc work in the scheduler position.

Completely disagree.

If you have no experience, college interns or new grad or 1-2 years of work exp but no real experience please do not do this.

@mswoonc I think you're talking a bit of apples an oranges. Financial traders can ultimately trade whatever they want because it's mostly views on economics and the underlying asset is tracking against main price indexes. Once you go into the physical world it becomes an entirely different animal.

You can apply. But don't bullshit in the interview if you get a call. You only learn the ins and outs of ops by doing the role. Its something you can learn at school for example. Also as a few of them mentioned all depends on product. Crude Vessel scheduling, forget about it. Products barge scheduling you might have a shot. There are very few people who want to remain as operators through out their career. So demand for experienced operators are high.

Also operators are viewed differently at different firms.

Adding on to the this... You can probably swing an entry level scheduling position in the nat gas space, but crude scheduling is generally not an entry level.
