S&T 1st Year Sales - What do they do?

Read some forums that talked about what 1st year traders in S&T do, but there was not a lot of discussion about what 1st years sales do. I know you do not get immediately handed a book of clients and its more of a gradual process (during junior years, even when you get a book its more small & medium sized firms/transactions and you build your way up from there), but I wanted to know when would be around the time you actually get to start dealing with clients. Thanks!

I used to sit next to a cash equities sales guy, when he wasn't sending out cold calls he was working on research materials for pitches.

A sales job could differ massively differ across desks/banks, in eqd I've worked with sales/ structurers and juniors generally have a greater variety of work to get through that doesn't involve communicating with clients.
