Pivoting to Managment Consulting for Grad
Hi guys,
I have previously completed a Quantitative Trading internship with one of Jane Street / HRT/ Citadel Securities, and am considering pivoting to Management Consulting for graduate positions.
I was wondering:
- How my internship experience is regarded by MBB & T2 firms, and
2. If I had a decent chance to get interviews, or if it was too late, given I have no management consulting experience?
Hey there,
Your internship experience at a top-tier trading firm like Jane Street, HRT, or Citadel Securities is definitely valuable. While it's not directly related to management consulting, these firms value diverse experiences. Your quantitative skills and exposure to a fast-paced, high-stakes environment could be seen as a strong asset.
It's never too late to pivot into management consulting. MBB and T2 firms often hire candidates from various backgrounds. While having management consulting experience can be beneficial, it's not a strict requirement. Your chances of getting an interview would depend on various factors such as your overall profile, academic performance, and how well you can network and leverage your existing connections.
Remember, it's all about how you frame your experiences and skills to align with what consulting firms are looking for. Good luck!

If you graduate in 24 you missed the application deadlines. But if you have another recruiting cycle, your profile should be looked at very favorably. Assuming GPA is high, can’t imagine you wouldn’t get through the screen at most of MBB/T2.
The only downside is that interviewers will assume you are quantitatively sound and press really hard on behaviorals and qualitative analysis during interviews—they will not be impressed by your math prowess because that’s par for the course for someone with your profile. But, if you can prove you’re well rounded, you’ll be chillin
