Price Reporting To Trading

Hi all - long time reader, first time poster. I work at a price reporting agency covering oil products (can’t be more specific). My question is: is it possible to transition from price reporting to oil trading? Would several years experience covering a niche product be enough for me to be considered for a junior position on an energy desk (either at an oil major or prop shop or hedge fund)? Thanks in advance!

Yeah it happens pretty often, and while you probably won't be getting a straight trading role, it will be very feasible to end up as an analyst on one of their desks. Just reach out to your sources for help, talk to receptive folks at the company who were former traders, and reach out to people who have left your company for trading gigs and talk to them.
