Qual vs. Quan in choosing a stock?

When analyzing a stock, what outweighs the other? I know you must utilize both techniques to successfully choose a stock but I am asking (even if it is 51/49) what do you prefer more on choosing a given stock to invest in? A Quant could analyze BP all day but not expect their recent debacle as a Qual could and a Quant couldn't realize iPhone 4's latest problems. What do you guys think?

This is a really stupid question because the two cannot be separated whatsoever and I'd love to meet the "qual" (wtf is that anyway) that anticipated the BP oil spill or the iPhone 4's antenna issue. When people talk about 'quants' this is not what they are talking about for the most part.

The only discussion is Technical vs. Fundamental. Which really isnt a discussion becuase they both serve totally different purposes. Just read alot and you will pick up some good info.
