Reporter doing story on day trading looking for input

Hello:

I'm a freelance reporter doing a story on day trading and looking for general experiences and advice (not specific strategies or "secrets") from a trader who used to work at a large trading firm (please identify which one if this applies to you) but now trades on your own as well as the same type of input from independent traders who may have lost money but consider themselves part time or "amateur" traders.
