Senior guy leaving the firm, what happens to the fresh junior?

Just been wondering, what would be the likely scenario, if on the trading floor the most senior guy(be him a MD, director or whoever holding the real influence within the team) who picked you up as an incoming analyst left the firm to join its competitor only a couple months after you joined the team? With him he took a couple dedicating senior VP/Associates, etc, and you got a FT offer mainly because that senior guy wanted you in the team.

What's the possible career outcome in the next few months / years for this dude? Hypothetical situation (I'm not "you" in this example, just an observer), but would respect any input.
