S&T Sophomore Internships

Are there banks that offer sophomore sales/trading internships? If not, what kind of places would be best to position myself for getting a SA position my junior year summer? Currently in freshman summer trying to get everything in order for that. Thanks in advance

Based on the WSO threads, while it's less common for major banks to offer structured sophomore internships specifically in sales and trading (S&T), there are still opportunities out there, especially at smaller or regional banks. Here’s how you can position yourself effectively for a junior year summer analyst (SA) position in S&T:

  1. Networking: Start building connections now. Reach out to alumni, attend industry conferences, and engage with professionals on LinkedIn. Express your interest in S&T and seek advice on how to prepare for such roles.

  2. Internships at Boutiques or Smaller Banks: These firms might be more flexible or open to taking on sophomores. Even if the role isn’t directly in S&T, gaining experience in a finance-related position can be beneficial.

  3. Relevant Experience: Look for internships that can give you relevant skills such as analytical abilities, understanding of financial markets, and experience with financial modeling and tools.

  4. Clubs and Extracurricular Activities: Join finance or investment clubs at your university. Participating in trading simulations or competitions can also be a great way to learn and demonstrate interest.

  5. Educational Courses: Consider taking courses related to economics, finance, and statistics. Knowledge of financial instruments and markets will be crucial in a sales and trading role.

By following these steps, you can build a strong foundation and increase your chances of securing a more targeted internship in your junior year.
