S&T to IB

Hi guys.

I recently secured my junior year internship summer analyst position (summer 2023) at a large US bulge bracket for Sales & Trading in NYC. However, after getting experience in a small investment banking/Private equity company this summer, I’ve realized I want to pursue IB

How can I make the switch? Do I recruit for a full time position in IB? Or do I try to switch to IB internally at my bulge bracket? Is there anyway I can try to switch my internship division at my bulge bracket from S&T to IB before next year (Summer 2023)?

Thanks guys. Really appreciate it!

whatever route you can. do it quickly. ive seen a handful do this jump. most who have done this switch have to reset/downgrade a bit (a2 -> a0, as1 -> a3) etc. It's not the end of the world but just know there's some cost to switching. if you like your firm try to stay internal. theres usually someone in HR who specializes in internal transfers even at the intern level.

try to work on banking relevant desks over the summer. e.g. avoid macro flow, maybe spend some time on corp derivs, syndicate, credit research, etc

Great thank you! Appreciate it. What are my odds of switching from S&T to IB before my summer internship next summer? If I try, I guess my S&T offer would be rescinded and then would have to re-interview for IB?

thanks!
