Starting in Sales and Improving Cold Call Success

I work on the production side at small firm that provides due diligence services firm . Our end user is alternative investment shops. I spoke with our head of biz dev and he's open to showing me the ropes if I prove myself first.

I make terrible pay in production and working in sales is more transferable long term.

I have to call up PE firms VCs and family offices. Generate interest and set appointments. Anyone have any advice on how to set that second appointment? Also, is selling to PE, VCs, and Family Offices something that can help me break into sales on Wall street? Finishing up a degree at a top 50 B school.
