Switching from Public Finance into Institutional Sales

I currently work as an analyst at a boutique in a mid-size city. I've come to realize that I have a deeper passion for markets than I do for modeling debt service structures, and I would like to switch over to the S&T side of the business at some point.

Is hiring robust at the junior analyst level in sales groups? I could see myself moving to NY to work at a larger firm if the opportunity arose.

Also, would my current experience as a public finance investment banking analyst help my resume in applying for sales analyst positions? I graduated from a semi-target with decent grades (~3.5), but this current position as well as a previous internship with the same boutique is my only work experience.
