Terrible team culture

I love my new role, but my team is the worst I’ve had. Specially this one guy who thinks he owns the company and he has a lot of influence within the team. He keeps bad mouthing me and making sure I’m set out for failure. It’s been 8 months, I don’t know if I should leave or give it more time. Any advice??

Are sure that you are not just taking this the wrong way, looking into things too much or giving them a reason to behave this way? If so then I would try building a relationship with this person first and try to figure out what's causing the animosity.. Could they feel that you are acting against them or view you as a threat for some reason? If trying to build a relationship doesn't work you may want to approach them in private, tell them how you are feeling and ask if there is anything you can do to improve your working relationship.

If this fails, I would consider moving as someone like this can make your life exceptionally difficult and even kill your reputation in the industry.

Thank you. I’m still not sure what it is or if I’m doing something to annoy him, maybe I’m just the newest person in our team… I wish I could find out because it’s hurting how others in my team see me. You’re very right about my reputation in the industry… don’t know what’s worst, leaving after only 8 months or continue working there considering everything
