Vegetarian Salesman?

So a friend was telling me that because I'm a vegetarian, I won't do well in Sales. I don't mind being around meat - just don't eat it myself. His rationale was that people would think I'm a "pussy" haha.

Any thoughts?

im a vegetarian and i was a trader.

youre fine, but i can tell you, you better have a great story prepared to continually answer the question "so why are you a vegetarian"? cause youre even going to get it more than i did. and i cannot tell you how many times, even as a junior trader, i held the gaze of an entire table of steak eaters staring at me waiting for my response.

be confident about it. do not make excuses. have a few comebacks for any jackasses around the table (in good jest) or a joke embedded in your story and try to move the conversation on quickly.

 

Fair enough. I can handle jokes but he was saying I wouldn't do well in the sense traders or investors wouldn't like me.

I shot back that if I made $ - who cares about my diet.

 

Not to be a dick, but but I know a couple people in the sales part of S&T, higher level relationship management, etc and "entertaining" clients involves a lot of alcohol, food, womanizing, etc. Regardless of the varying level of slutting going on just keep in mind you wont be dealing with priests when you go out.

 

well i do drink, bang women, etc. i just dont eat meat. when i said religious, i meant it more that i was brought up that way, and not a "hippie" choice.

 

last time i checked, this is America, so you should just sack up and enjoy some steak.
