What all can I learn at an S&T desk??

I am currently an intern in the Equities division of a big institutional brokerage firm. The people here are super friendly and open to all kinds of questions to help me out. I have been put on a couple of automation projects but those don't consume much of my time during the day. The director of the desk has asked me to explore all the different divisions of the desk and think of a big project so I can get the most out of the intern. I have about 2 months and even if I am not able to complete the project I start with it's not an issue. I am in a bit of frenzy as I don't know what would be the best way to contribute. All ideas/suggestions are welcome, would be great help!!
