What are commodities trading intern hours?

I know hours for FT employees can vary based on desk/market conditions, but what should I expect as an intern? Offer letter says 40 hours a week but is this accurate? Thanks!

Mornings always best.  Makes you feel better the entire day.  But timing it depends on how early you want to start.  Gas/power is usually around 7AM.  Crude/products around 8.

You probably won’t really have urgent tasks as an intern but you also don’t want to be the college kid who strolls in several hours after everyone else.  So just follow the schedule of your desk no matter what the letter says.  They can be quite different depending on the team, culture.

Also see if there is a gym near your office.  If it’s downtown Houston, there are a few.  If you can’t do mornings, going to the downtown YMCA at 5PM to wait out the traffic surely feels better than driving back home at peak rush hour.

Thanks. I prefer to lift in the mornings, but with my commute from the Woodlands I don't know wether that will be possible. I'm in crude so hopefully it will be around 8. Would it be worth it to get a place inside the loop for the summer? It is late but I can always move the basics into an apartment from furnishedfinders.com on the weekends. I'll start checking out gyms downtown.

Just for the overall experience I would get a place close to downtown for the summer. You are going to be miserable making that drive everyday and doubly miserable if you're also trying to get a gym session in. You will also be able to network better while having a place downtown since you can easily go out with other interns, young analysts, etc.

Other option is to double down on Woodlands life and just work out later in the evenings after you get home from work and make your entire summer about driving, working, driving, and working out.
