What occurs during training week at BB SA program in S&T?
Hello all, I am expecting an SA role at a BB this summer in S&T. How in depth/involved is the one-two week training period in the beginning and what does it cover exactly? More general finance or mechanics of actual trading, etc? Thank you.
General finance stuff. Equities, bond, basic derivatives, accounting... It changes depending on bank. Some firms have a trading game as well.
Pretty basic stuff, so everyone regardless of education background has a foundation to use and build upon
S&T Training - Hours and any exams? (Originally Posted: 03/14/2009)
What should I expect from training. What are the hours? Any exams?
You should probably post this in the trading forum instead for better answers, but just some things I can comment on:
All training programs are different firm-to-firm. Hours are about 7:30/8 to 5:00 at most places. Exams include Series 7 and 63, others if you're trading commodities, futures, etc.
Don't worry about the licensing tests; they're a joke. If you're smart enough to get hired you should have no problem with them.

What goes on during that first week of training? I have been assigned to commodities but will I actually learn much about commodities during that first week.
no, accounting/finance, etc
nothing is desk specific. you'll be with equities and probably research kids too. its basic excel functions, accounting, bond math, option payouts, etc. absolutely nothing to prepare for. they'll have you play some trading games if ur lucky.
I am starting FT in S&T in a BB, but I would very likely miss their 4-week training program. Would that be a big negative. I am thinking about making it up next year, but dont know if that helps...
What you guys think?

About to start training at a BB in NYC for S&T. How are the internal tests (ie, accounting)? How important are they? Anybody who has gone through a bank's training program would be appreciated.

My bank never had any acc exams or anything like that...i am not sure if Lehman does or not, but you should probably ask some of the kids that did the first summer rotation if you are that worried about it.
