When Networking...

... how appropriate is it to ask them to refer you to others in the industry? I have had no issues with getting referrals from alumni (to other alumni), but what about at the end of a beer with someone you met at an info session? I'll be meeting with an analyst trader and a guy someone more senior (VP probably) in sales. It would have to go well, but I don't want to fuck something good up at a great firm by looking like a user.

Are these guys alumni. Alumni are more likely to refer you to friends (mostly other alumni) because they want to help you out. If these are two guys not from your school, I would not bother asking them. Also, you always have to be careful with asking people for referals. After you develop a relationship, it might not be that bad, but I feel like your trying to "get laid" on the first date with these guys if you ask them.

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."
