Which desk to visit?

Hey guys,

I started an FX Sales internship and next week I'll be sitting for multiple half days next to different FX desks (spot, forward, exotics, e-commerce,...) to discover the desks and really understand the relationship between all of them.

I was told I could visit another "area" of the bank if I wanted to such as equities, fixed income, commodities,.... anything really. Obviously I'll take this opportunity.

Do you guys have any ideas on what desk I could visit? I'm new to sales/trading floor so I don't really know what would be the most interesting...

Equities Algo/Electronic program trading desk.

good idea, something algo/eletronic related could be fascinating.

any other ideas?

Do BB still have traders/desks that do some kind of prop trading? I know a lot of it has been driven out by regulations but I was wondering if they had any of it left.

Dont pick an algo/program trading desk. It will not be fascinating and will probably be quite boring unless its a more prop like group. But in general program trading desk is literally one of the most boring desks on the floor, and ive even seen it moved off the floor.

Tbh noone can help you with this, surely you have some product that most interests you? Theres an argument to be made to pick something that would theoretically sit close to the FX desk, as then you can spend some time with them, but even if you are on the FX desk can swing by for a chat and build the relationship.

ok, so what desk trades government bonds? a desk in the Fixed income area I'm guessing.

What about Cash Equities? I heard the guys there are among the most fun/sociable.

You want friends get a puppy, you're shopping desks not pledging a frat.
