generally speaking, these desks aren't specialized by asset class at banks, so the traders on the EM desks will have to trade a wide range of products for a specific country/sector, which obviously would include at the base level FX considerations, but for the most part they have to know most of the asset classes for their sector. they are solid places to start if you want to trade on a desk that gives you exposure to a wide range of asset classes, as you had stated.
