3 years in IBD -> recruiting for PE / growth equity during pandemic?

Hey guys, hope you are well! Thanks for your help over the years on this forum. I have now had 3 years of experience in IB at a top tier BB in US and due to visa issue, I have returned to my home country taking a gap year but will be attending a one-year finance master in the U.S. starting this fall.

I am looking to pursue opportunities in PE / growth equity or corporate dev / strategic finance after graduation next summer for full-time. Not sure if anyone is close to the current recruiting dynamics for these fields, but I was wondering if I should defer my plan to come back to the U.S. given the coronavirus pandemic and the lack of clarity on when it will be contained. Obviously the economy has been impacted significantly and some sectors are on a hiring freeze, so I am wondering if it would be a bad time to look for jobs in the U.S. right now.

I know that the market can be tough for recent graduates but given that I have had substantial experience (3 years) at a top tier BB, I wonder if there is still hope for me to secure any employment in these fields. Obviously I will need to adjust my expectations and be realistic regarding the timeline and the types of firms that I need to include in my search, but my biggest fear is spending a full year working on getting a new degree but no job offer at the end of the semester next spring.

If I chose to defer coming back to the U.S., I would need to find a job in my home country as well, which I guess is doable but not something that I feel strongly about because my long-term goal is still to work in the U.S.. Curious to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you!
