Alphabet City vs Greenpoint — curious to hear your thoughts

What's up Monkeys,

Moving here soon and weighing two apartments. Would love to hear from people who know these areas:

The Options:

  • Alphabet City (E 6th & Ave C): $1,425/month, 3b/1b. Classic EV energy — bars, restaurants, always something happening. Noisier but more action. Smaller room without a window, but already furnished. 8 minute walk to EV as well as GYM NYC. Fair walk to L train, about 35 min total commute to my office.
  • Greenpoint (Calyer St/Nassau Ave): $1,616/month, 3b/1b. Better apartment overall — more space, pretty nice bathroom. Doesn't have as much going on as EV. Picturesque neighborhood, good coffee spots. 10 min walk to the office (5 min if I time the bus right).

About me: Mid-20s in tech sales, working on advancing my career while building podcast/media projects on the side. Want to be around driven people who are actually making things happen. I lift regularly, enjoy going out, but also need space to focus on side hustles. Meeting quality people — both for networking and dating — is really important to me. I'll be honest, I'm drawn to ambitious, attractive women (some would call me a "modelizer", but I care a lot about brains/presence too).

What I'm curious about:

  • How do these neighborhoods actually feel day-to-day for someone with my priorities?
  • Any thoughts on the dating scene differences? Which area tends to have more of the type I'm looking for?
  • Does location really impact networking opportunities in NYC, or am I overthinking it?
  • What would you choose and why?

Also totally open to other neighborhood suggestions if you think there's something I should consider. Just want to hear different perspectives from people who've been there.

Thanks for any thoughts!
