Australian looking for advice on US VC

Hi WSO community πŸ‘‹πŸΌ

I’m an Associate at an early-stage firm here in Australia but my partner is from the US and we are thinking of a move back there in a couple of years.

Hoping for some advice on the following:

β€’ What are the most typical financial modelling skills needed for VC in the US? A lot of job ads I look at there emphasise this, but at my current firm we are so early we don’t put much focus on this at all so it’s not a skill set I have. Given it is so broad and there are different levels of complexity, I’m hoping to get some insight into key areas I should focus on

β€’ This will obviously vary by firm, but what is the typical culture/work load like? We always hear about the crazy American work ethic but I’m hoping to get an idea of what that will look like (e.g not IB hours pls)

Grateful for any and all insights and hmu if you’re keen to connect and learn more about the industry on the other side of the world πŸ˜‰
